Use this board to discuss the Lavender Line. Do they do a better or worse job than the Bluebell? Are they too small to have a future?

Presumably the Lavender Line's status as "The Bluebell's Diesel Department" is under threat, now the Bluebell are embracing Diesels!

I just think the Bluebell have missed a trick by leaving a diesel locomotive parked on their platform for so long. An old diesel just gives the average punter the wrong impression. ANY out of steam Choo-Choo could have been put in view and would have made an interesting object which would have attracted the public's attention and probably been on some local paper front pages. My opinion, feel free to differ.

Not sure what that has to do with Lavender Line... but assuming you are talking about the 33 in the platform at East Grinstead (hopefully not "on" it!) I think the Bluebell are simply concentrating on doing the work required to open the line. No need for headlines at present, they'll come next week...

Impossible to compare. Very different societies with very different circumstances.

I agree with goldenwonder4 ,its a small sort of working museum with no room for expansion. I have been twice with my grandson and we both enjoyed ourselves. The tea & cakes were nice & the hospitality great. Its a small part of a big railway jigsaw with lots of the surrounding parts lost forever. Well worth a visit.

Isn't there talk of reopening Uckfield to Lewes every now and then? Where would that leave the Lavender Line then? Brushed aside I guess. Mind you there is always talk of reopenings but nothing ever comes of it in England. Might be better to spend some of the HS2 money on improving the railways for the majority of us rather than for a few wealthy businessmen to get to their meetings a bit quicker.
